Garet Kartchner
Vice President & Prosecutor
Garet Kartchner co-founded the Center for Rural Arizona Justice in 2024. Having been born and raised in the small town community of Thatcher, Garet developed a commitment to rural Arizona from a young age. Once Garet decided to pursue a career as an attorney, there was no question that he would return to serve rural Arizona.
Garet attended Northern Arizona University where he earned a bachelor's degree in criminology and criminal justice. Following his undergraduate studies, Garet went on to attend the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law at Arizona State University. During his time in law school, Garet completed an internship with the City of Mesa Attorney’s Office. Additionally, Garet returned home each summer to intern at the Graham County Attorney's Office. While in law school, Garet was awarded the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in The State Attorneys General.
Upon graduating from law school, Garet joined the Graham County Attorney's Office as a prosecutor. During his tenure with Graham County, Garet prosecuted hundreds of misdemeanor and felony cases, ranging from DUI and domestic violence offenses to sex crimes and homicides. In 2023 Garet served as the Assistant Chief Deputy County Attorney where he was assigned to manage attorneys. In recognition of his work as a prosecutor and commitment to public service, Garet was awarded the 2021 Rising Star Award from the Arizona Prosecuting Attorneys’ Advisory Council. In 2024, Garet accepted the Lead Prosecutor position for the Apache County Attorney’s Office. In that position, Garet was responsible for the oversight and training of other attorneys.
Garet started the Center for Rural Arizona Justice because he saw an opportunity to utilize his prosecution experience to serve the broader needs of rural communities across the state. Garet is committed to helping where needed to administer justice in rural communities.
